Most people conjure up a similar picture in their mind’s eye when they hear the words “above-ground swimming pool.” That picture generally shows a pool with the following characteristics:
- Four feet tall
- Round shape
- Light blue lining
- Uniform depth
- Ladder on the side
There’s nothing really wrong with that. Many of the pool models we manufacture at Doughboy® Pools fit a similar description, and our customers have been enjoying them for decades. But you should know that above-ground swimming pools aren’t limited to one shape, one size, and one general look.
Not Your Average Above-Ground Swimming Pool
As we say time and time again, our goal at Doughboy Pools is to build pools that are bigger, better, stronger, and last longer. That involves giving our pool customers options when it comes to design and features. That way, you can enjoy a more convenient, attractive, and fun swimming environment based on your preferences and resources.
Below, we’ve listed some of the key features that make Doughboy’s above-ground pools a cut above other competing above-ground pools.
Vinyl Liner Options
As a manufacturer, Doughboy has stood out in the pool and spa industry since 1947. Because we make every pool product we sell in-house, we’re able to maintain more rigorous quality control from start to finish. That level of quality is especially apparent in our vinyl liners.
Made with our proprietary Therma-Seal™ technology, these liners are made with 100% virgin-vinyl with plasticizers and stabilizers, achieving a rare combination of puncture-resistant strength and flexibility (especially in the case of our expandable liners). Moreover, they’re printed with various patterns to fit in with your overall backyard aesthetic.
Deep End
Because we make an expandable liner, certain pools in our lineup have the capacity to include a deep end. Yes. You read that right. Your above-ground swimming pool can have a deep end! This is also commonly referred to as a deep swimming area.
Imagine this: Your Doughboy Pool’s outer structure is assembled. Now, the liner is ready to go in. With an expandable liner, you have two options. You can either install it to look like a flat-bottom pool. Or you can stretch it like a balloon to contour a seamless, sloping deep end of up to seven feet.
Oval Shape
A classic, round pool shape is great. But what if you want to swim laps for exercise or invite the neighbors for the most legendary pool parties on the block? An oval pool shape may be more to your liking. It’s a good thing, then, that Doughboy has some of the strongest oval above-ground pools in the industry.
With most oval above-ground swimming pools on the market, you’re likely to find one or more of the following elements in the design to help the pool maintain its shape with the high water volume:
- Buttresses that extend a noticeable distance from the pool’s long sides
- Tightened metal straps under the pool’s floor holding the tension between the pool walls
In addition to their extra-strong frames and walls, Doughboy’s Compac II’s buttress design allows for larger pools to be installed in smaller yards. This allows for more options and freedom in design for everyone, regardless of yard size. This makes the pools sturdier and gives them a look that is sleek and beautiful.
In-Wall Entry Systems
Don’t let anyone tell you that in-wall steps are for inground pools only. Doughboy proudly proves the opposite with its in-wall entry system which can be installed on certain pool models when they’re surrounded by a deck or fully recessed into the ground.
And, yes, you can put your above-ground pool into the ground. In fact, we wrote an entire blog about it: How Do I Make an Above-Ground Pool Look Like an Inground Pool?
